On June 11, China (Guangdong) - Thailand Economic and Trade Cooperation Exchange Meeting and the project promotion meeting of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area were held in Bangkok. The exchange meeting was sponsored by Guangdong Provincial People’s Government, and organized by Thai-Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Thai Chinese Youth Chamber of Commerce. More than 600 representatives from the political and business circles of China and Thailand attended the exchange meeting, in which they made exchanges and discussion the deep connection between the "Belt and Road" initiative, the construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and the "Thailand 4.0" national development strategy, and the construction of the eastern economic corridor.

Li Xi, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC central committee and secretary of Guangdong Provincial Party Committee, led more than 200 entrepreneurs from Guangdong to Thailand. He made a speech at the exchange meeting, saying that Guangdong is an important window to show the achievements of China’s reform and opening up to the world, the construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area will certainly provide a major historical opportunity for the practical cooperation between Guangdong and Thailand. Thailand is vigorously promoting the strategies including "Thailand 4.0" and the eastern economic corridor, and actively promoting trade liberalization, which has provided broad space for Guangdong and Thailand to deepen cooperation.

Li Xi proposed to strengthen the economic and trade cooperation between Guangdong and Thailand in five aspects, including supporting each other’s participation in the implementation of major development strategies, continuously expanding two-way investment, improving the scale and level of trade, deepening cooperation in the fields of agriculture and fishery, and deepening cultural and tourism exchanges and cooperation.

In his speech, Thai Deputy Prime Minister Somkid said that Thailand and China are committed to promoting regional connectivity, and the construction of the eastern economic corridor actively promoted by Thailand is highly consistent with the construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, and the cooperation of both parties will benefit the people of the region. Guangdong is a bridge between China and ASEAN countries. ASEAN countries shall seize the opportunity that China promotes the construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, promote pragmatic cooperation with Guangdong and drive the economic development of all countries and even the whole region.

Chinese ambassador to Thailand Lv Jian said in his speech, China has been Thailand’s largest trade partner for six consecutive years. Guangdong is at the forefront of China’s reform and opening up and foreign cooperation. With the deepening of the "Belt and Road" initiative and the continuous acceleration of the construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, it is believed that Guangdong will certainly achieve mutual benefit and win-win results in bilateral cooperation.
