On May 12, Jaw-Kai Wang, world-renowned scientist in fishery engineering, academician of National Academy of Engineering, member of the Overseas Expert Advisory Committee of the State Council, and chairman of the board of Shenzhen Jawkai Bioengineering R&D Center Co., Ltd, became a guest of the Bauing lecture, and became the 13th guest speaker of Bauing lecture.
On May 12, Jaw-Kai Wang, world-renowned scientist in fishery engineering, academician of National Academy of Engineering, member of the Overseas Expert Advisory Committee of the State Council, and chairman of the board of Shenzhen Jawkai Bioengineering R&D Center Co., Ltd, became a guest of the Bauing lecture, and became the 13 th guest speaker of Bauing lecture.
The 13 th Bauing lecture was held in the Cisco Information College of Guangdong University of Foreign Studies at the invitation of Guangdong University of Foreign Studies. The lecture of this year is themed as “Mathematics, Science, Engineering and Industrial Innovation”. This lecture was hosted by Ke Xiaohua, coming from the Cisco Information College of Guangdong University of Foreign Studies.

Before the lecture began, Gu Pu, vice president of Bauing Group, expressed his welcome and gratitude to academician Jaw-Kai Wang on behalf of the organizer of Bauing lecture. As the leading figure in the fishery industry, academician Jaw-Kai Wang is one of the founders and first chairman of United States Fishery Engineering Association, and once served as consultant in the United Nations Food Agriculture Organization, World Bank, United States Department of Agriculture, Rockefeller Foundation, and other organizations. 84-year-old academician Jaw-Kai Wang will definitely make the Bauing lecture even better, and will enrich the scientific and technological information sequence for the commonweal communication of Bauing lecture.”
After the former guest speakers of Bauing lecture Dr. Li Daxi, chairman of Chinese Association for Science and Business, and academician Ma Zuoping, well-known American micro-nano scientist, learnt that academician Jaw-Kai Wang would become a guest of the Bauing lecture, they specially sent a VCR from abroad to express their greetings to academician Jaw-Kai Wang.
Academician Jaw-Kai Wang explained the correlation among different disciplines.
Academician Jaw-Kai Wang began to give the lecture of Mathematics, Science, Engineering and Industrial Innovation later. During the lecture, academician Jaw-Kai Wang led everyone to review the mutual promotion of various disciplines in the process of social development, and pointed out the misunderstandings of some students in the process of learning by giving precise definitions of mathematics, science, engineering and industry, and explaining the correlation among different disciplines. The thoughts of academician Jaw-Kai Wang are as follows: Mathematics is provable, and can be proven in many ways; while science is objective, and has been improved with no need for verification. Mathematics only comes into contact with science after a certain stage of social development. If science is applied to manual work, it will be considered as engineering, and thus will converge into the industry.
Academician Jaw-Kai Wang encouraged students to create the next generation of computer language.
Academician Jaw-Kai Wang also took his own study experiences in his youth as an example to further display the application and development of various disciplines in modern China. He said in all earnestness, “Young students must have courage and executive force to meet the needs of the era development. Furthermore, they must make efforts to create the next generation of computer language by means of the perfect combination of science and manual work, so as to contribute their own strengths to the development of science, technologies and industry in the future of China.”

All the teachers and students were touched by the words of 84-year-old academician Jaw-Kai Wang. They enthusiastically put forward various questions to academician Jaw-Kai Wang according to their actual situations, such as the advantages and difficulties during the popularization of agricultural engineering automation in China, how to cultivate the capacity for independent thinking, how to make use of college life, etc. Academician Jaw-Kai Wang provided the questioners with detailed answer for each question combined with his own experience.
Academician Jaw-Kai Wang introduced the application of large-scale production of diatom.
During the communication, academician Jaw-Kai Wang explained the application subject of the large-scale production of diatom that he was actively engaged in to the questioners. He introduced his unique concept of diatom culture, and pointed out that the biggest advantage of diatom was low cost and simple process after comparing the diatom with the artificial nanotechnology, activated carbon technology, ion decomposition technology, etc. Eventually, academician Jaw-Kai Wang analyzed the development of diatom culture in our country, made analysis combined with China’s lack of resources, environmental pollution, energy shortage and other details, and pointed out the development direction in the future.

Brief Introduction of Academician Jaw-Kai Wang
Academician Jaw-Kai Wang, whose ancestral home is Renqiao village, Guoxi town, Ouhai District, Wenzhou, was born in Nanjing, Jiangsu in March 1932. He successively studied in the primary school and middle school in Nanjing, Chongqing, and Guangzhou. He was admitted to Taiwan University in 1949, became a postgraduate in the Michigan State University in 1955, and graduated from the Michigan State University with the doctorate in 1958. He mainly studies the large-scale open production of marine microalgae, the analysis of aquaculture production system, and the system design that can be used for extracting the antibacterial substances and bio-oil from the marine algae. Academician Jaw-Kai Wang is one of the founders and first chairman of United States Fishery Engineering Association, and once served as consultant in the United Nations Food Agriculture Organization, World Bank, United States Department of Agriculture, Rockefeller Foundation, and other organizations. He came to China many times since 1979, and was once granted an interview by Deng Xiaoping, Chen Yun, Wang Zhen, Fang Yi, and other elder generation of national leaders. In July 2015, he was employed as one of the first batch of members of Overseas Expert Advisory Committee by China State Council.
